BTS deliver a riveting performance for "Make It Right" on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert

On 17th May, BTS made their second appearance as musical guests on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. This performance was followed by septet’s quintessential reenactment of the 1964 Fab Four historic appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show with Stephen Colbert. The reenactment was accompanied by a stupendous showcase of BTS’ hit single “Boy With Luv”.

For their follow-up performance, BTS performed ” Make It Right”, a single from their new mini-album “Map of the Soul: Persona”.

In our previous piece, we discussed the significance of BTS’ appearance and reenactment on The Late Show. Their appearance on an American TV Show is not just a testament of their status as the global superstars. The performances hold cultural significance, with BTS proving that one need not rely on established norms to carve their niche amongst consumers of one of the most significant industries on the planet. Singing in Korean, these seven men have left people across the world mesmerised.

Performing the stripped-down version of “Make It Right”, the septet took seats to showcase their vocal prowess to the general public. BTS are known to usually incorporate choreography to depict a theme, conceptualised to narrate the tale of a song. The well-choreographed routines are loved by everyone. But this time, they let their vocals do the job.

The strategy worked in their favour as it allowed the audience to relish in a range of musical notes, deep falsettos, beautiful harmonizations, and a perfect blend of soft rap with laid back vocals. Be it the vocal line or the rap line, each member stood out and drew attention for their unique contribution to the single. The performance received a standing ovation from the audience, depicting the latter’s favourable response to the group. The similar response was seen on social media as people took on platforms like Twitter and YouTube to share their positive reactions.

The EP comprises of seven songs and each song including “Make It Right” has been making its mark on significant musical charts, both within and outside South Korea. As updated on 27th April, “Make It Right” peaked at 95 on Billboard Hot 100. With the release of “Map of the Soul: Persona”, BTS became the only band after The Beatles to score three number one albums within a year. The EP continues to perform well both in terms of charting and sales.
