The identity of the man who allegedly murdered an Adelaide man in his CBD unit can now been revealed.
Dylan John Kovarskis, 24, was charged with the murder of Nathan Russell in late January after the victim’s body was discovered by a friend inside his Housing SA unit on Sturt Street, in Adelaide's CBD.
The 46-year-old’s death was treated as suspicious and was later declared a major crime.
Mr Kovarskis, whose identity was suppressed under court order, first fronted court over the incident two days after it occurred.
He appeared by video link in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on January 28 and was seen yawning and interrupted during the hearing.
He did not apply for bail.
The accused on Tuesday reappeared in the Magistrates Court where the prosecution asked for the suppression order to be lifted
The court was told it was put in place to ensure Mr Kovarskis’ identity did not impact their earlier investigation.
“We no longer require that,” prosecutor Dominic Crosby said.
Mr Kovarskis, who appeared via video link, was unrepresented in the morning’s hearing and said he expected his lawyer Nick Vadasz to appear on his behalf.
Magistrate Michelle Sutcliffe said she would wait until later in the day to make a final decision in the hopes Mr Vadasz would represent his client for a separate bail hearing and discuss the matter then.
“It may well be that Mr Vadasz wants to put something in favour of it remaining, given the defendant was expecting him,” Ms Sutcliffe said.
During the later breach of bail hearing, Ms Sutcliffe consulted with Mr Vadasz and lifted the suppression order.
Mr Kovarskis is due to reappear in court in July.
